The Death Cafe comes to Peterborough

Peterborough’s first Death Café

Life, death, and cakes

We at Borley Green are happy to be taking part in this event. Whenever we think of Peterborough we always remember that old Roy Kinnear ad with him dressed as a Roman Legionnaire. Just showing our age!

Monday, May 13th Between 7pm and 9pm At The Great Hall, Thorpe Hall Hospice, Thorpe Road Longthorpe, Peterborough, PE3 6LW

What is the Death Café?

Death Cafés are the opportunity for people to come together in a relaxed setting to discuss life and death, drink tea (or coffee) and eat delicious cake. Stated simply, the idea of a Death Café is to increase awareness of death to help people make the most of their (finite) lives.

Death Cafes are:

Not for profit with expenses covered through donations
In an accessible, respectful and confidential space, free of discrimination, where people can express views safely
With no intention of leading participants towards any particular conclusion, product or course of action

And you get a lovely cuppa with cake!

Why life, death and cup cakes?

Death is still a taboo subject. And one of the reasons for that is the imagery often associated with it. So let’s move away from that and look for something more positive. When you die do you want to be met by the Grim Reaper or Stephanie? A skeleton with a scythe or a pretty girl with a cup of coffee and a plate of cakes?

Do let us know if you’re coming so we can make sure there’s enough cake!
